All students at MS have to finish at least 15 upper secondary units in English but the third course is specialised according to which programme or line the students are in. Here below is shown the organisation of English in the academic programmes and lines of study the route to elective courses if the students choose to add to their studies in English.

Courses in English at MS

ENSK2AE05(ms) - Academic English

Introduction of and training in Academic English. Literature related to the culture of English speaking communities is also read and carefully studied.

ENSK3AE05(ms)- Academic English

 A continuation of training in Academic English as well as texts about the English language. Literature related to the culture of English speaking nations is also read and carefully studied in relation to history and culture.

ENSK3FS05(ms) - Specialised English in Social Sciences

Specialised English vocabulary for social sciences introduced and practiced. Various articles in the field of social sciences are used. Literature is also read and carefully studied in relation to cultural context.

Prerequisite: ENSK3AE05(ms).

ENSK3HS05(ms) - Specialised English in business and economics

Course three. Five upper secondary credits. Specialised English vocabulary for business and economics introduced and practiced. Various articles in the field of business and economics are used. Literature is also read and carefully studied in relation to cultural context.

Prerequisite: ENSK3AE05(ms).

ENSK3NÁ05(ms) - Specialised English in natural sciences

Specialised English vocabulary for natural sciences and technology introduced and practiced. Various articles in the field of natural sciences and technology are used. Literature is also read and carefully studied in relation to cultural context and/or scientific context.

Prerequisite: ENSK3AE05(ms).

ENSK3FM05(ms) - Specialised English in media and marketing

Course four. Five upper secondary credits. Specialised English vocabulary for media and marketing is practised. Various professional material in the field of media and marketing is used. Literature is also read and studied in relation to the context of media and marketing.

Prerequisite: 10 upper secondary credits in English at third level.

ENSK3TV05(ms) - Specialised English in science and technology

Specialised English vocabulary for science and technology is practiced. Professional material on science and technology is used. The professional material will be a mixture of real issues related to science and technology, and science fiction. Literature related to the world of science and technology will be read.

Prerequisite: 10 upper secondary credits in English at third level.

ENSK3YE05(ms) - Reading for pleasure in English

An elective course. The goal of this course is to increase students' reading of literary works in English, both classical and mainstream fiction. Students themselves select works from a list prepared by the teacher. A strong knowledge of English is a prerequisite for a successful study in this course but an interest in literature is even more important.

Prerequisite: 10 upper secondary credits in English at third level. level.
